CHINESE EXCHANGE PROGRAM AT DULANEY HIGH SCHOOL

Club Contact: Fred Figlewski ffiglewski@comcast.net

The Greater Jacksonville Optimist Club is proud to be a sponsor for the Dulaney High School (DHS) Chinese Exchange Student Program again for the 2009-10 year.

Quick Update:

Twenty-nine (29) students from Xi'an, China arrived on February 23, 2010 and are being hosted by families from Dulaney, Towson and Hereford High schools.  This is the largest group of Chinese Exchange Students for the history of the Baltimore County School program. The students are attending classes in the High Schools where their respective families live.  The schools have planned several field trips and other school activities including High School sports and dances.  The Optimists from Jacksonville, Timonium, Cockeysville and Hereford are organizing

  • a Farewell Party on Sunday, April 11

  • a trip to an Orioles game

  • and other activities possibly including a Movie Night at Future Home or a Bingo Night

In 2009, thirteen Chinese Students and one teacher from First Railway Middle School (in China, secondary schools are called middle schools) were here from February 12 - April 6, 2009.  They will attend DHS and stay with host families who have students at DHS.

We planned events for the 2009 program. Here is how we helped with this program last year:

  • Attended a Baltimore Orioles game (the O's won)  100 tickets were donated by the Orioles

  • Future Home Tour - Dave Ward lead a tour of Future Home

  • The Timonium, Cockeysville and Jacksonville clubs organized and sponsored a Farewell Picnic

  • Extreme Bowling at Perry Hall lanes
