2010 Topic: "Cyber Communication: Progress or Problem?"
LATEST NEWS ABOUT THE CONTEST: CLUB CONTEST When: Thursday,
March 25, 2010
Where: St James Academy, 3100 Monkton Rd., Monkton, MD 21111 Agenda

PM
Contestants arrive to meet with the oratorical committee. They
should have their registration form and a printed copy of their speech
with them to give to the committee members. The committee will
review the rules with them and the students will draw letters for the
order of speaking.
6:30 PM
Judges arrive to meet with the committee
6:45 PM
Everyone--Contestants, parents, teachers, guests, Optimists, etc. meet in
the theatre 6:55 PM One group of contestants (boys or girls) and their audience will move to the Activity Room
7:00 PM
- 7:05 PM Contest will begin 8:00 PM (Approximately) Contest ends and we have a dessert social in the Activity Room. During the social, the judges will determine the winners. After the social everyone will return to the theatre for the awards presentation.
We
should be finished before 9:00 PM.
General Information About the Club Level Contest
When:
The
deadline for students to submit and present speeches is determined
by the sponsoring Club. The Club contest date will be determined
by the club (usually around the end of March or early April). Contact
Dennis Lane (see below) for
more info. The deadline for
Districts to submit their winner's information to Optimist International is June
15, 2010.
First conducted in 1928, this is the second most popular Optimist International Program. Nearly 2,000 clubs participate in this program each year. The winners at the Club level receive medallions and Zone winners receive a plaque. Districts have the opportunity to provide two $2,500 scholarships.

Who: Youth under the age of 16 as of December 31, 2009.
The Optimist Oratorical Contest gives youngsters the chance to speak to the world. More than $150,000 in college scholarships are awarded annually from this program.
The contest begins at the "Club" level and the 1st place Club winners advance to the "Zone" level. The winners of the "Zone" level compete at the "District" level.
Club Level: 1st-3rd place boy and 1st-3rd place girl receive medallions and runners up receive certificates of participation. 1st place winners advance to Zone contest.
Zone Level: 1st place winners advance to District contest. Sometimes plaques may be awarded to winners.
