Was held on Sunday, December

held at the Future Home Annex
This year, the Club
sponsored three anonymous families from Villa Maria. The
sponsored families made lists and Optimist members purchased gifts,

We had hoped to schedule a Family
Supper at the Children's House at Johns Hopkins in May,
but it just didn't work out.
We are now on the schedule to serve a
Family Supper at the Children's House at Johns Hopkins on
Tuesday evening, June 13, 2006. We would like to
have a group of six (6) volunteers prepare and serve this
supper.

are interested in participating please contact Dennis Lane at

Children's House at St.
Casmir
The Children's House at St. Casimir's in
Canton is now open.
Many Optimist Clubs in the
Maryland/South Delaware District of Optimist International,
including the Greater Jacksonville Optimist Club, have donated
funds to the Maryland/South Delaware District Optimist
Childhood Cancer Campaign. Some of those funds were used
to support this house which is the first hospital housing
facility within the United States to focus exclusively on the
long term housing needs of pediatric bone marrow transplant
patients and their parents and siblings.
A special open house at the
Children's House at St. Casimir's is being planned for
Optimist members and their families on Saturday, June 10,
2006, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. This will be an
excellent opportunity to see how our funds are being used to
support the children and their families. Our
club specifically sponsored the utensils for the kitchen
in one of the apartments.
Mark the date on your calendar.
You will receive additional information as we receive it.

Optimists
Visit the New Children’s
House at St. Casimir
Past Maryland South Delaware
District Governors, Don Bosserman
(l.) and Dennis Lane (r.), were among
the Optimists who visited the Believe
in Tomorrow Children’s House at St.
Casimir on May 10. The house, located in a former
convent, provides long term housing for the families of
children being treated at Johns Hopkins.
Greater Jacksonville
Optimist member, Chad Casserly, also
visited the house and noted that the Greater Jacksonville Optimist
Club is of one nine Clubs in the MDSD District of
Optimist International that donated funds to the Maryland/South
Delaware District Childhood Cancer Campaign Foundation
specifically for the purchase the kitchen cooking
and serving utensils for the house.

This is a new project for our Club and was
held at Perry Hall Middle School on Saturday, February 4, 2006.
This was the preliminary contest and the project is being chaired by
Mike
Borowitz.
It involves
teams of students from Baltimore, Cecil, and Harford County
participating in individual and team math activities. The
winners at this event participated in the state event at
Johns Hopkins on March 4, 2006.
The club provided volunteers who assisted with
registration, proctoring the activities, and scoring the
activities. Mike has participated in the past and enjoyed
it and is looking forward to having our Club involved in the
future.

Dinner Meeting
on Wednesday, January 18, 2006
We had a very productive dinner meeting on
Wednesday evening.
Christina Aybar, 2005 HOBY Ambassador,
from Towson Catholic High School and her Mother and sister were
our guests. Christina told us about herself and her HOBY
experience at the Maryland Leadership Seminar last May.
It was a pleasure having Christina
and her family as our guests. We will be sponsoring a sophomore
from Towson Catholic to the 2006 Maryland Leadership Seminar on
Memorial Day Weekend.
After Christina's presentation we
set up the assembly line and went to work assembling the materials
for Stock Market Challenge 2006. This is our
eleventh Stock Market Challenge and SMC is our Club's largest
fund raiser. Last year the net earnings were approximately
$3,500. This money is used to support our youth and
community projects.
It has been very successful because of
the support of our members and the participants they bring into
the project. We thank you for your past support and look
forward to SMC 2006 being the best ever.
All members who attended the meeting
received their SMC 2006 materials at the meeting. If you
were not there, we mailed the SMC 2006 materials to you, so you
should have received them by now.

Club
Meets Honor Club Requirements
From Reporter Dennis Lane: We
ended the 2004-2005 year on Sept. 30 with 50 members, which is one
more that we started with on October 1, 2004. That meets the
membership requirement for Honor Club so that brings our Honor
Club streak to six (6) consecutive years. Way to Go GJOC!
